: Looking after your dental crown is pretty straightforward. The best approach is to maintain excellent oral hygiene, just like you would for your natural teeth. This means brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing between your teeth to keep both your crown and gums healthy. Regular dental check-ups are also important so your dentist can monitor your crown and the tooth beneath it.
: Yes, you can choose the colour of your new dental crown! We are happy to advise you on the shade that would best match your natural teeth, but the final decision is always yours. If you are thinking about teeth whitening treatment, we recommend having that done before your crown is made. Whitening treatment is not effective on crowns, so once your teeth have reached their new shade we can make your crown to perfectly match.
: Tooth crowns are not permanent, and will need replacing or repairing at some point. The treatment process is irreversible as some of your natural dental enamel is removed in order to accommodate the crown on top, so you will always need a crown on your tooth. Most crowns last for up to 10-15 years before natural wear and tear will likely cause the need for removal and replacement.
