What is general dentistry?

General dentistry focuses on providing routine preventive care to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy and whole. It is the most common reason for you to visit your dental practice and serves as the foundation for your overall oral health.

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend that most patients visit the dentist every six months for a routine check-up and hygiene treatment. However, depending on your individual oral health needs, we may recommend more or less frequent visits.

What is gum disease (periodontal disease)?

Gum disease is an infection of the gums that can damage the soft tissue and bone that support your teeth. In its early stages (gingivitis), gums may become red, swollen, and bleed easily. If left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis, which can cause teeth to become loose and eventually fall out. If you are worried about gum disease, please book an appointment with our periodontist.

When should my child start visiting the dentist?

We encourage you to bring your children with you to your routine dental appointments from an early age, as this helps get them used to the dental environment. We will start with an introductory visit to familiarise your child with the environment before we move onto examining them in the chair, normally on a parent’s lap. We always make their visits fun!
